What Could We Have Done?

When Darkness Falls

When Peace Comes

When Prayers Fall Short

Angel’s Wings

Soft as a whisper, a fluttering breeze gone by

The ear strains to hear what the eyes fail to see

Dream-scattered remnants of bright-spattered hues

Thoughts of still places in the corridors of the mind.

Such are the times that make up our lives, as shadows

Flit around us, barely seen and seldom heard in currents

Of life’s daily portion of the mundane and routine

That all seem important as we pass through their midst.

What we retain are broad strokes of the patterns

Of existence, of fast-fleeing years, and points of remembrance

That brought laughter or tears, or joy midst the fears

Of what could have happened, but oft never did.

Yet, each prayer we utter, each anthem of praise, are carried on swiftly

On the same angel’s wings, that we often imagine in fancies of flight,

To the ears in the throne room that listens unceasingly

And stores away the sweet savor of the prayers of the saints.

So, though we’ve forgotten in life’s rushing years

The many details of our rock-riddled journey

Not one prayer is forgotten, or one tear shed in vain

For the Father retains them, and he’ll share them again.
