Beast
of Burden The poor camel said, as he bowed ‘neath the load, “I long for the days of my childhood, When I romped in the sands, and rolled in the grass, And carried nothing more than my hump.”
His master replied, “You live to complain, Without me, you’d be dead in the desert, Your whole useless life, you’d fight with the flies, And break all your legs in the process.”
Said the camel, “Your eyes must be blind, For it’s my feet that carry you onward. The vultures would come, and pick all your bones, If left to your own sad devices.”
The man laughed so hard, he fell to the ground, And dashed out his brains on the stones. His beast heaved a sigh as he lumbered away, And said, “At least, he died happy.” I wonde
