What Could We Have Done?

When Darkness Falls

When Peace Comes

When Prayers Fall Short

The Parting

We cherish them, we comfort them,

We sometimes wish them elsewhere,

But when comes the time to let them loose,

We can hardly bear the parting.

Through snotty nose, and bloody toes,

We treat each small affliction,

And when they tie their own two shoes

We wonder when we lost them.

Through grief and tears, and teenage years,

We celebrate each goal post,

And with the worst, we throw our hands,

To the skies, in exasperation.

We’ve done our best, they’re in God’s hands,

For, after all, he loaned them to us,

And we trust his Word, that when they’re grown,

They’ll return to what we’ve shown them.
